The Human Resources Assistant is the primary person who processes the bi-weekly payroll as well as the daily work related to the administration of Town benefits to Town employees and retirees.
Responsibilities:
- Provide a wide variety of administrative duties to assist the Human Resources Director with various responsibilities.
- Collect bi-weekly payroll worksheets from each department; examines worksheets prior to data entry; reconcile balances to data entered, examines information for errors. Reconcile payroll deduction reports to invoices for insurances and prepare invoices to be paid by Accounting Department.
- Enrolling all new employees in health and life insurance plans, pension, deferred compensation, etc. Notify employees of any changes in their benefits. Track and maintain limits on deferred compensation.
- Oversee all employees' and retirees' insurance deductions, prepare data spreadsheets and oversee all self-pay retirees. Prepare turnover sheets for reporting self-pay retiree insurance payments to Treasurer/Collector in a timely basis.
- In conjunction with the HR Director, prepare Job Postings, post in-house, notify unions and advertise vacancies for Town Departments.
Skills:
- Expected to keep confidential information confidential. Regular access, at the departmental level, to a wide variety of confidential information, including personnel records, medical records, etc
- Excellent organizational, clerical and administrative skills
- Working knowledge of office procedures, practices and equipment
- Proficient with Microsoft Office; with emphasis on Word and Excel.
- Bachelor's degree in related field with four (4) years municipal government experience preferred; or an equivalent combination of education, training and work experience that provides the requisite knowledge, skills and abilities for this position. At least one year of payroll experience in a municipality is preferred.
