Job Description:
The Trace Detection Electro-Mechanical Technician is a team contributor to ongoing development and maintenance of systems and assemblies used in equipment that detects trace amounts of explosives and drugs. Primary focus will be on troubleshooting, maintaining, and preparing existing detection systems in the lab, and also at locations around the world for customer trials and agency certifications. The role supports engineering activities in a trace detection lab environment developing innovative functional modules and products used in ETD security and detection applications. This will include calibrating and verifying functionality of existing systems, building prototypes, gathering data, and system testing in a timely fashion, while participating in a small multi-disciplinary team working together on a variety of challenging project items.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
•Troubleshoot and maintain Engineering B220 and H150E Trace Detectors.
•Work with the multidisciplinary design teams throughout the development cycle from builds of evaluation modules to prototype, test verification, and documentation to create and evaluate trace detection systems for both next generation product development and existing product improvement.
•Support all development phases from initial hardware concept through system level integration and production to assure total customer solutions. Assist engineers, to make modification of prototypes and retest until performance meets specifications. Support the manufacturing team by troubleshooting products to assure that products are performing to design specifications.
•Participate in Engineering and project status meetings as required, in accordance with established development processes and procedures.
•Order parts, chemicals, tools, and equipment as necessary to support product development, sustaining and certification efforts.
•Work with export compliance and shipping departments to ship units to trials and certifications.
•Support trials and certifications of instruments, installing and supporting them in the field (national and international locations). Position requires travel between 10% and 15% of time.
Qualifications:
• High School Diploma or equivalent and a minimum of 4 years of prior relevant experience, or 2 years post-Secondary/Associates Degree with 0 to 2 years of prior related experience, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
•Proficiency using standard engineering lab hand tools, DVM, and other standard lab devices.
•Good troubleshooting analysis and problem solving skills, with sustained follow through to completion of solution implementation.
•General understanding of high school chemistry/physics.
•Competent hands-on hardware build, integration, test, and debug experience of electromechanical sub-systems and assemblies using measurement equipment such as, signal generators, spectrum analyzers, DVM, oscilloscopes etc. General understanding of calibration techniques for test equipment.
•Application of good writing skills in the preparation of data results engineering analyses reports, and technical documents using MS Word/ Excel/ PowerPoint.
•Ability to Communicate and work effectively with internal design teams and external contract manufacturers.
•Ability to interpret data after tuning to determine positive or negative results
•Ability to work cooperatively in an engineering results-oriented development environment with minimal direction.
•Good interpersonal skills and ability to work in a multi-disciplinary team other departments.
•Ability to travel nationally and internationally as needed. Expected travel between 10-20%.
