Temporary Health Information Management Technician at Shriners Hospitals For Children

We are currently seeking qualified and talented candidates for a Health Information Management Technician(HIM) in our Boston location. This role will report to the Manager of HIM.

This is a full-time, temporary position with a possibility of the role becoming a regular position.

Position Overview:

Under the direction of the HIM Manager, the incumbent is expected to perform several HIM functions including understanding and processing requests for information, management of the Discharge Not Final Billed (DNFB) report, serve as liaison to Physicians for education and issue resolution regarding deficiencies.

Key Responsibilities:

* Identifies/resolves issues with the Discharge Not Final Billed (DNFB), ensuring accounts are coded timely
*Serves at the Physician/Provider Liaison, resolving chart completion issues; assists in completing monthly closed chart reviews.
*Serves as primary Release of Information specialist processing Medico-Legal and patient walk-in requests
*Prepares reports regarding patient related statistics; verifies, distributes and posts data.
*Prepares monthly medical record reviews for the medical staff; follows up with physicians/hospital staff in completion of deficiencies in the medical record.
*Provides medical record reports as requested by internal/external customers, re: insurance/payment related requests; logs information into HIS tracking application in the internal system.
*Compiles/verifies data and prepares reports regarding patient statistics.
**Serves as back-up to the HIM Manager.

Three years plus experience in medical records processing, within a healthcare environment. Bachelor's degree in Healthcare, or related field.

Graduate of an approved Registered Health Information (RHIT) program or Health Information Management Association (AHIMA) credentialed strongly preferred.


Proficient with Microsoft Office suite(EXCEL). Prior exposure to electronic medical record/ document imaging systems, as well as other healthcare computer applications. Knowledge of medical terminology as well as a strong knowledge of Medico-Legal/HIPAA Privacy practices.
