business is the fusing of oxide and carbide minerals in electric arc and Acheson furnaces, as well as the
grinding and classifying of the minerals into grains and powders. Established in 1868, Washington Mills
continues a long history of excellence in serving raw materials to the abrasive, refractory, ceramic and
industrial abrasive markets.
JOB SUMMARY
The Production Material Handler will work directly with, and report to, the company's Production Foreman.
The Material Handler will be directly involved in the monitoring and operation of several pieces of crushing
and grading equipment. The automated equipment will produce various sizes of abrasive grain that the
production worker will put into containers and either prepare for customer shipment or store in one of
several warehouse locations. The production worker will be responsible for working harmoniously and
safely within a team environment. This position is 5am-3pm, Monday-Thursday with occasional Fridays.
RESPONSIBILITIES
- Fill, transport, palletize, stack, and organize drums, super sacks and bags of abrasive grain.
- Handle drums, super sacks, and bags of abrasive grain through various methods: manually, with powered lift devices, with motorized pallet jacks and with fork trucks
- Weigh, label and test abrasive grain for resale.
- When necessary, perform basic quality assurance tests.
- Monitor production line for evidence of mechanical failure, product contamination and other hazards.
- Must be able to lift a minimum of 50lbs.
- Must be able to follow all prescribed safe work methods and work injury free.
- Use/maintain Personal Protective Equipment (PPE).
- Perform general cleaning duties.
- Additional duties may include but are not be limited to: general servicing/tooling of production equipment, housekeeping and various preparatory tasks for production.
- Previous industrial experience with machines and package handling a plus.
- High school diploma or equivalent, certifications or higher education a plus.
- Must be able to pass necessary physical and pre-employment drug screen.
- Must be able to speak, read and write in English - Spanish is a plus.
- Must have a valid driver's license and reliable transportation.
- Must have a basic understanding of general industry work and safety practices or the willingness to learn.
- Knowledgeable with fork truck operations or the willingness to learn.
- Ability to use basic hand tools, i.e. wrenches, screw drivers, mallets.
- Ability to perform basic math calculations.
- Ability to work in a team environment and adapt to changing production demands
