Scientist at Catapult Solutions Group

Catapult Solutions Group is looking for a Scientist to work for one of our CDMO clients that specialize in the microbiome space. This is an onsite position in Watertown, MA. The individual will play a key role to supporting microbiome products process development activities. He/she will design, perform, and interpret complex experiments in collaboration with other process development teammates. They will have an extensive practical understanding of aseptic cultivation of microorganisms. The individual will work collaboratively in a cross-functional manner and provide guidance for experimental design to further understanding of processes and impacts to product attributes for live biotherapeutics.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • The individual will be a laboratory leader responsible for both the design, execution, and analysis of complex small- and medium-scale experiments
  • Support cross-functional efforts to develop microbial strains as live biotherapeutics
  • Generate experimental plan, oversee/execute plan, review data, and resolve technical challenges
  • Create, review, and approve protocols and technical reports detailing experiments and outcomes
  • Represent the group in cross-functional team and client-facing forums to discuss/make recommendations based on data generated by the team
  • Help safeguard that good laboratory techniques are being used through a mentoring-based approach to team dynamics
  • Maintain a safe work environment in accordance with policies/procedures/regulations

Qualifications -

  • B.S./M.S. Degree in Microbiology, Biology, Biochemical Engineering, or other relevant major with 6+ years of progressive related industry experience. Ph.D. preferred.
  • Being highly skilled in aseptic cultivation of microorganisms is required
  • Must be detail-oriented and organized even in a fast-paced environment, maintaining good technique/data integrity under tight (but workable) timelines
  • Must have the ability to compile and analyze data, drawing logical conclusions that can then be used for recommendations and decision making with clients
  • Fermentation experience (fermentors/bioreactors) is preferred but not required
  • Anerobic microbial cultivation experience is preferred but not required
  • Experience commercializing live biotherapeutics is preferred
  • Must have an attitude of collaboration in a team-based environment as well as be able to lead junior staff (by example) in accomplishing the team's goals
  • Familiarity with Process Validation guidelines (ICH, PDA) is plus
  • Familiarity with a Quality by Design (QbD) approach to process characterization activities as well as product lifecycle management is plus
  • Must currently have a good understanding of safe laboratory practices
