A private family on the island of Martha's Vineyard (Massachusetts, USA) actively seeks a full time year-round resident gardener with a horticultural degree to assist with the care two properties, one pond front and the other, forested.
We are looking for a motivated self-starter to plan, implement and manage vegetable, fruit and native wildflower production in a new greenhouse, start and maintain small outdoor organic vegetable and berry gardens, care for a native wildflower meadow and oversee wetland and forest projects. Managerial tasks will include the oversight of contractors for irrigation, tree work and/or other labor intensive projects. You will have a P/T assistant but be expected to work alongside him. An apiary is being planned so experience in that area is a plus.
This is a position for a candidate who is intelligent, well organized and professional with an understanding of organic approaches to property management. The job requires dedication, a good work ethic and above average communication skills.
The hourly wage will start at $45. The compensation package will include newly constructed, fully furnished housing at minimal cost, health benefits, a 401k plan, yearly paid vacation (accrued), continuing-ed and work clothing stipends and a yearly performance based bonus.
